What Is Required to Connect a Photovoltaic System to the Grid

The photovoltaic plant is connected to the Grid as follows:
  1. In the case of simultaneous netting, the Grid Operator (ΔΕΔΔΗΕ ΑΕ) uses the supply through which the consumption installation where the photovoltaic plant is installed is powered, when technically feasible. To carry out simultaneous netting or virtual simultaneous netting, the self-consumer must install a telemetry system to record, in real time, data on the plant’s electricity production and injection, and on the consumption at the supply to be netted. The data collected by the meters (supply meter(s) and generation meter(s)) are the energy drawn from the Grid or System at the consumption supply and the energy injected by the plant into the Grid or System during one Imbalance Settlement Period. The metering data are collected and retained by the competent Operators.
  2. Please note that, for existing single-phase LV supplies, the power of the photovoltaic system cannot exceed 5 kWp. A prior increase in the supply capacity, by converting it to three-phase, is required for a photovoltaic system with higher capacity.
  3. For LV users, the generation plant is not connected to the installation’s main LV panel, but to a point upstream of it (see diagram 1), or, for MV users, to the LV busbar of a new or existing transformer, so that the main consumption panel is supplied in the same direction by both the Grid and the generation plant. Specifically, for LV supplies No.5 (85 kVA), No.6 (135 kVA) and No.7 (250 kVA), connection to the installation’s main panel via a dedicated circuit is possible.
