Subsidies of up to 50%, starting at 30%, for battery installation are provided for under the program “Energy Storage Systems for Businesses”, whose Guide was published by the Ministry of Environment and Energy. The subsidy depends on the size of the company, with small businesses receiving the greatest support.
At the same time, there is a maximum grant amount for the battery. Beneficiaries are also entitled to support through the program for ancillary work. This includes the technical study, as well as the cost of grid connection.
The program budget is approximately 160 million euros, and is expected to fund the installation of storage units with a total capacity of 500–600 megawatts. This funding is allocated as 100 million for very small and small businesses and approximately 60 million for medium-sized and large businesses. Applications submitted through the dedicated online platform will be assessed on a First In – First Out basis. Therefore, once an application has been successfully assessed, the corresponding subsidy funding will be approved, provided that the available budget has not yet been exhausted.
Applications that are successfully assessed after the available funds have been exhausted will be placed on the reserve list. Therefore, if funds remain in either of the two categories (e.g. from the 100 million for very small and small businesses), they may be transferred to the other category to cover reserve-list applications.
The eligible expenditure for batteries with a one-hour capacity may not exceed 400.000 €/ MWh, and for batteries with a capacity of between one and two hours, it may not exceed 350.000 €/ MWh.
In addition, the maximum eligible expenditure for ancillary costs related to interconnection with ΔΕΔΔΗΕ / ΑΔΜΗΕ, may not exceed 5.000 € per connection.
The program will provide subsidies to companies exclusively for battery installation. However, having a photovoltaic system is a prerequisite for applying for support. Therefore, companies eligible to apply for the program include those that already have a photovoltaic system, as well as businesses planning to install a solar system at the same time (for which they will not receive a subsidy).
The battery must “work in conjunction” with the photovoltaic system, so that the business can cover as much of its consumption as possible with the solar system’s output, either directly or indirectly. Accordingly, the photovoltaic system’s output will primarily be used to supply electricity to the company, while any surplus will be directed to the battery.
