How We Design Solar PV Systems at Solar Home – Assessment, Performance & Payback

See how Solar Home designs solar PV systems based on real consumption data, a thorough site assessment, and realistic payback calculations.

How We Design Solar PV Systems at Solar Home – Assessment, Performance & Payback
The right design for a solar PV system isn’t a matter of choosing an approximate capacity. It’s about data, experience, and realistic calculations. At Solar Home, every project starts with an assessment and ends with a solution that performs in practice—not just on paper.

1. We start with real consumption data
We don’t design based on assumptions. We analyze electricity bills (daily/monthly consumption, load profile, peak demand), usage habits, and any potential future changes (heat pump, EV, business expansion). This allows us to set a realistic self-consumption target.

2. We assess the site—not just the square footage
Performance depends on:
  • orientation and tilt,
  • shading (permanent/seasonal),
  • structural integrity and roof type,
  • available area without overcrowding.

We don’t “fill” a roof with panels; we optimize the layout for consistent production throughout the year.

3. We choose the right model: Net Billing, self-generation, battery
There’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Based on the consumption profile:
  • we determine whether Net Billing is worthwhile,
  • whether a hybrid inverter is needed,
  • and when a battery makes sense (and what capacity).

Our goal is for energy to be consumed at home or at the business, not to be “lost” to the grid.

4. We calculate payback using conservative scenarios
We don’t sell “magic numbers.” We calculate payback using:
  • actual performance in Greece,
  • summer/winter scenarios,
  • energy purchase and sale prices,
  • a long-term outlook (not just the first year).

This way, the customer knows what to expect.

5. We choose equipment for long-term reliability
The design is completed with equipment selected to:
  • suit the intended use (without oversizing),
  • offer proven reliability,
  • come with technical support and warranty coverage.

We’re not only interested in the installation—we want it to work properly for years.

6. Handover with monitoring and a clear picture of performance
After activation, the customer has:
  • a complete picture of production & and consumption,
  • the ability to track savings,
  • the option to upgrade in the future.

Design doesn’t end with installation; it continues throughout operation.

At Solar Home, we don’t design solar PV systems by guesswork.
We design systems tailored to the people, the building, and the consumption needs, with the goal of maximizing energy use and delivering real financial returns.
