Solar panels with no upfront capital and a grant of €1.000
The government’s plan, Solar Panels for All, is taking shape. The plan will give eligible applicants the option to install a solar panel system without paying any upfront capital.

Eligible applicants will receive a grant of €1,000, and the remaining amount will be repaid in a payment of €150 every two months through their EAC bill, once and if electricity generation from the solar panels begins at the property in question.

For example, a home that consumes approximately 1,000 kilowatt-hours pays close to €400 every two months, since the price per kilowatt-hour is currently 35 cents, plus the additional EAC charges. With solar panels installed through the scheme, the bill will fall to between €20 and €30. The €150 payment will be added to this amount, and the bill will automatically drop from 400 euros to between €180 and €200 every two months.

Businesses

Businesses will also receive support for solar panels through virtual net billing, for systems of up to one megawatt with storage and up to 400 kilowatts without storage.

“If a hotel does not have the option of using its roof for the installation of a solar panel system, a system of up to one megawatt could be installed on another plot of land, provided that a battery is installed so it can use that electricity generation.”

The remaining step is to finalize the administrative details for the schemes for homes and businesses. The government aims to put them into effect early in the new year.
